Convert JPG to WebP

Turn JPG photos into WebP in seconds without uploading them anywhere. Perfect for speeding up a website without changing how it looks.

Drop your images here

or paste with Ctrl+V · JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, JXL, GIF, HEIC · up to 30 MB each

Images are processed on your device and stored only in this browser so you can convert them again.

Why convert JPG to WebP

WebP produces files 25–35% smaller than a JPEG of equivalent visual quality, and every modern browser supports it. For a site with lots of photos —an online shop, a blog, a portfolio— that reduction translates directly into faster pages, less mobile data and better Core Web Vitals.

Unlike AVIF, WebP encodes very quickly, so it's a great choice when you're converting hundreds of images at once or when you want a modern format with near-universal support.

How to convert JPG to WebP with ImageZap

  1. Drop your JPG files on the area above, paste them with Ctrl+V or pick a whole folder.
  2. WebP is already selected as the output format. Adjust quality if needed: 80 is a good starting point for photos.
  3. Images convert automatically. Check the savings for each one and open the comparer to inspect details at 100%.
  4. Download each image individually or all of them as a ZIP.

If you also want AVIF, select it alongside WebP: you'll get both files in a single pass, ready for a <picture> element.

Which quality to use when going from JPG to WebP

WebP's quality scale isn't exactly the same as JPEG's. As a practical reference:

UseWebP qualityNotes
Thumbnails and listings70–75No visible difference at small size
General photography78–82The recommended balance
Hero or product image85–90For smooth backgrounds and gradients

Keep in mind your JPG is already lossy: re-compressing at very high quality won't recover detail and only adds weight. If the result isn't smaller than the original, lower the quality by a few points.

Resize at the same time

The biggest source of wasted bytes isn't the format but the resolution. If your photos come out of the camera at 6000 px and are displayed at 1600 px, use the Max width option in the settings panel. Halving the dimensions divides the number of pixels by four.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to WebP lose quality?

Both formats are lossy, so technically there's another round of compression. At quality 80 or higher the difference is imperceptible at normal size. If you need full fidelity, turn on Lossless, although the file will be larger.

Can I convert many JPG photos to WebP at once?

Yes, with no limit. You can drop a whole folder. For very large batches, turn off automatic conversion, set the quality and press Convert.

Does WebP work in all browsers?

Yes: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (since version 14) and their mobile versions. If you need to support very old software, provide a JPG fallback inside <picture>.

Is EXIF data kept?

No. Metadata, including GPS location, is removed during conversion, which reduces size and protects your privacy.
