Why convert WebP to JPG
WebP is great for publishing on the web, but not all software accepts it. Some image editor versions, print services, older content management systems and upload forms only take JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG gives you a 100% compatible file.
ImageZap uses MozJPEG, an optimized encoder from Mozilla that produces smaller JPGs than standard encoders at the same quality, fully compatible with any viewer.
How to convert WebP to JPG
- Drop your
.webpfiles or paste them from the clipboard (for example, after copying an image in your browser). - JPEG is already selected. Quality 85–90 is appropriate if you'll keep editing or printing; 80 is enough for sharing.
- If the WebP has transparency, choose the background color under Advanced: JPG has no transparency and transparent areas will be filled with that color.
- Download the files.
Quality and size
Going from WebP to JPG usually increases file size, because JPEG is less efficient. That's expected: you're gaining compatibility, not savings. If your goal is to reduce size for the web, stick with WebP or try AVIF.
Since the original WebP was already lossy, there's no point using quality 100: the file grows without recovering detail.
Progressive or baseline
By default JPGs are generated in progressive mode, which on the web shows a blurry preview while loading and is usually slightly smaller. If the destination is an old system or a printer, you can turn it off under Advanced.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparency when converting WebP to JPG?
JPG has no transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose (white by default). If you need to keep it, convert to PNG.
Why is the JPG larger than the WebP?
WebP compresses better than JPEG. By converting you gain compatibility in exchange for some extra size.
Can I convert animated WebP to JPG?
The first frame is converted. JPG doesn't support animation.
Is it safe to convert private images?
Yes. Conversion happens in your browser and images are never uploaded to a server.
