Convert PNG to JPG

If you have photos saved as PNG, converting them to JPG can cut their size by a factor of ten with no visible loss.

Images are processed on your device and stored only in this browser so you can convert them again.

Why your PNGs are so heavy

PNG stores every pixel exactly. It's ideal for graphics with flat colors, but on a photo —millions of slightly different colors— the file balloons: a 12-megapixel photo as PNG can exceed 20 MB, while a good-quality JPG takes 2–3 MB.

This often happens with screenshots of photos, exports from editors that default to PNG or images downloaded from design tools.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Add your PNGs.
  2. JPEG is selected. Use quality 82–85 for photos; ImageZap uses MozJPEG, which makes better use of every byte than common encoders.
  3. If the PNGs have transparency, choose the background color under Advanced (white by default).
  4. For screenshots with text, turn on 4:4:4 subsampling so letters stay crisp.
  5. Download.

JPG or WebP?

If the image is going on a website, consider PNG to WebP: it's even smaller and keeps transparency. Choose JPG when you need full compatibility: email attachments, documents, print services or apps that don't accept modern formats.

When NOT to convert to JPG

  • Logos, icons and diagrams with few colors: JPG will create halos around edges. Keep an optimized PNG (Compress PNG) or use SVG.
  • Images you'll keep editing: each JPG save adds loss. Edit in PNG or your editor's native format and export to JPG at the end.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?

They're filled with the chosen background color, because JPG doesn't support transparency.

How much smaller will the file be?

For photos, typically 70–90% smaller. For simple graphics it may even grow; ImageZap shows the change for every file.

Can I convert screenshots?

Yes, but if they contain a lot of text, also try lossless WebP to compare: it can be sharper at a similar size.

Is there a file limit?

No. You can convert as many PNGs as you like, up to 30 MB each.
